Gor Samvel

Gor Samvel is an MSCA postdoctoral researcher at the UiT-Arctic University of Norway, Faculty of Law. He holds a PhD in International Law and Political Science from the Geneva Graduate Institute, as well as master’s degrees in law from Ghent University and Yerevan State University. In 2018-2019, he was a visiting scholar at Duke University School of Law under Swiss National Science Foundation Doc.Mobility program.

His research focuses on compliance with and implementation of multilateral environmental treaties, and the role of non-state actors in these processes. Samvel's current postdoctoral research project examines whether the radical environmental movement has become a normative order in international law enforcement.

Gor has led and participated in research projects funded by the Research Council of Armenia and Norwegian Research Council. These projects explore the role of local institutions in environmental management, climate-suitable and integrated seed systems.

In addition to his academic work, Gor has served as a legal expert on various development projects in Armenia and elsewhere, addressing climate change, biodiversity conservation, and waste management. He is also a member of UNECE Pollutant Release and Transfer Register Protocol Compliance Committee.
