Sona Martirosyan received her Masters Degree in journalism at Yerevan State University. She continued her education at the Yerevan School of Political Studies supported by the Council of Europe. For five years she worked as a correspondent for several local and international news outlets. For the past nine years she worked as the director of the news website Aysor.am. Sona has carried out projects in media literacy, protection of ethnic, religious and sexual minorities’ rights, women’s involvement in peacemaking processes and identity based discrimination. Currently, she is the head of Public Relations at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia.

The fertility rate in Armenia is 1.6 births per woman. This year, five regions in the country registered mortality rates higher than their birth rates. The largest spike was in Lori marz. Experts say that the demographic rates are alarming.
