Genomics and Bioinformatics: Challenges and Opportunities
Academic programs around the world are not preparing enough bioinformaticians to deal with the exponential data growth we are observing. Armenia needs to catch up quickly.
Lilit Nersisyan, PhD, has 10+ years of experience in computational biology and genomics. She holds a BSc degree in biophysics, an MSc in biotechnology and a second MSc in Computer Science. Lilit has completed her PhD at the Institute of Molecular Biology of the National Academy of Science in Armenia, and at the University of Leipzig in Germany, where she defended her thesis in 2017. Afterward, Lilit has conducted postdoctoral studies in genomics and computational biology at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. Lilit is an awardee of prestigious grants in life sciences, such as the Marie-Curie Individual Fellowship, the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) short term fellowship, and has twice been nominated among “the most productive scientists of the year” by the Science Committee of Armenia. Lilit is the Founding Director of the Armenian Bioinformatics Institute.
