Volunteering in Armenia: Key Issues And Challenges
This policy analysis aims to explore the main reasons people volunteer, how volunteer work is regulated and the key issues the volunteering sector faces in the Republic of Armenia.
Ashot Sargsyan is a specialist in Disaster Risk Management and Organizational Development. His area of expertise is based on the rich experience gained throughout his long lasting engagement in the humanitarian field. He studied in the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute then worked in the scientific sphere in various academic institutions. After the Spitak Earthquake he joined the Red Cross International Movement working for about twenty years for the Armenian Red Cross and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent in different senior positions including international assignments. He was awarded with the title of Honor President of the Armenian Red Cross. Then he worked as a Disaster Risk Reduction/Disaster Response Advisor for the UNDP and UNOCHA. Presently he is a freelance expert providing consultancy services to the local and international organizations.
