Armenia’s post-war recovery will be long and hard. It will be especially difficult for the returning soldiers, the wounded, the families who lost their sons, the families whose sons are missing or in Azerbaijani captivity. Today, more than ever, the mental health of the population needs to be an integral part of the recovery effort and healing process. Lilit Ghaghramanyan, a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist speaks about the programs, the challenges, needs and gaps in Armenia’s mental health care sector.

During the 2020 Artsakh War, Azerbaijani forces violated the rules of war and committed severe war crimes. International human rights lawyer, Ara Ghazaryan, who has taken numerous cases to the European Court of Human Rights, speaks about the nature of these crimes and what steps are being taken.

The past year has been extremely tumultuous for Armenia: from COVID-19 to the 2020 Artsakh War. In recent weeks Armenia's currency has fluctuated to the point that the Central Bank of Armenia was forced to intervene. Irina Safaryan was born in a bunker during the First Karabakh War. Today, she is in Yerevan helping and assisting the women of Artsakh who were forced to flee the war launched by Azerbaijan a month ago. Leaving behind fathers, sons, husbands, brothers and their homes and lives, they are now holding rallies and protests in front of embassies and international organizations in Armenia’s capital demanding to be heard, demanding action, demanding the world’s condemnation. Irina is not only on the front lines with these women, she is one of the organizers.

David Barsamian of Alternative Radio speaks with Noam Chomsky, Institute Professor Emeritus at MIT about the Azerbaijani offensive in Artsakh, how the roots of the conflict stretch back through history when borders were drawn by powers pursuing their own self-interests and the need for international diplomacy. 

In Stepanakert, EVN Report’s Roubina Margossian spoke with Artsakh’s Ombudsman Artak Beglaryan about how the civilian population is being targeted by Azerbaijani forces, recent casualties, local and international journalists coming under fire, human rights violations and atrocities by the adversary and insufficient reaction and silence of the international community.
