Summer usually brings a slower rhythm to Yerevan. But for the Armenian tech community, at home and across the diaspora, the usual summer slowdown didn’t seem to arrive. From the much-discussed AI infrastructure projects to new milestones for Armenian-founded companies, there were plenty of developments in summer 2026 worth following.
Armenia’s Long-discussed AI Factories Switched On
Summer began with the opening of Eleveight AI’s data center in the village of Gagarin, in Gegharkunik region on June 1. Built around 512 of NVIDIA’s Blackwell B300 graphics processing units, the facility brought one of Armenia’s most closely watched AI infrastructure projects out of presentation slides and into operation.
Demand appears to have arrived quickly. Eleveight AI said its initial 1.5 megawatts of live capacity had been fully allocated within a month. Work is now underway to bring the facility to five megawatts by the end of the year, with a longer-term plan to reach 40 megawatts.
Then came Firebird. On August 8, exactly one year after Armenia and the United States signed a memorandum on an AI and semiconductor innovation partnership, the company officially opened its AI factory in Hrazdan. The memorandum, signed alongside agreements on energy security as part of the Washington Accords, called for cooperation on Armenia’s semiconductor ecosystem, secure supply chains, private-sector investment and infrastructure development. Firebird was a striking example of what that cooperation could look like in practice. The company named Perplexity as one of its first customers, giving the project a recognizable international client from the outset.
The company’s ambitions already extend beyond Armenia. Firebird says it has secured 125 megawatts of AI infrastructure capacity at Kazakhstan’s Data Center Valley, backed by the relevant Kazakh approvals and export authorization from the U.S. Department of Commerce. Firebird says it is also pursuing additional AI infrastructure projects in several other countries. Across these locations, it aims to reach a total capacity of two gigawatts by the end of 2028.
The speed has been striking: in a matter of months, Armenia’s AI infrastructure conversation has moved from whether these projects will materialize to how quickly they can expand. According to some estimates, if all the planned capacity comes online, Armenia would rank 11th globally in AI computing capacity, fifth in power capacity and second per capita. Quite impressive.
Wirestock Raises $23 Million After Reinventing Its Business
One of the summer’s biggest Armenian-founded funding stories arrived a little early. In mid-May, Wirestock announced a $23 million Series A round led by Nava Ventures. Participants included SBVP, the venture firm co-founded by Sheryl Sandberg, as well as Formula VC, I2BF Global Ventures and other existing and strategic investors.
Wirestock began as a platform that helped photographers and other creators distribute and sell their work. As generative AI changed the market, the company repositioned itself around a new source of demand.
The round will help it expand the platform, build custom datasets, deepen integration with AI research workflows, and develop new ways for creators to earn from their work.
BlueQubit Enters High-level U.S. Quantum Research Network
BlueQubit’s summer announcement came with a smaller number but a different kind of weight. In July, the Armenian-founded quantum software company and its partners received U.S. Department of Energy Genesis Mission grants totalling $1.5 million.
Compared with a venture round, $1.5 million may sound modest. But this was a research award, and its significance lies as much in the work as in the amount itself.
Quantum computers are extremely sensitive to noise, which introduces errors into calculations. Correcting those errors without requiring an impractical number of physical quantum bits remains one of the field’s central challenges. BlueQubit and its partners will use AI and high-performance simulation to develop smarter error-correction codes and faster decoding methods that can work within the constraints of real quantum hardware.
The projects place the company in a consortium that includes Microsoft, Argonne and Sandia national laboratories,and universities such as UC San Diego, the University of Maryland, and Virginia Tech. For an Armenian-founded deep-tech company, entry into this kind of U.S. research network may prove more consequential than the size of the grant alone.
Andreessen Horowitz Backs Netris
Near the end of June, another Armenian-founded company attracted one of Silicon Valley’s best-known investors. Netris raised a $15 million Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz, one of Silicon Valley’s best-known venture capital firms.
Netris works on a less visible but essential part of the AI boom: the networks connecting GPU clusters. Thousands of expensive GPUs are of limited use if they cannot communicate efficiently, share workloads, and be reconfigured as demand changes. Netris automates this connective layer, helping operators manage GPU clouds and AI clusters with far less manual work.
The company said the round followed 800% growth in annual recurring revenue and more than 35 live AI-cluster deployments over the previous 12 months. These are company-reported figures, but they help explain why a specialized networking platform has drawn the attention of a major investor. As spending on AI computing grows, so does the market for the less visible systems that allow that computing power to function.
Pension Capital Makes a Bigger Venture Bet
One of the most consequential investment developments of the summer did not come from Silicon Valley. C-QUADRAT Ampega Asset Management Armenia, a pension and investment fund manager in Armenia, committed $6 million to Formula VC’s second fund.
The commitment builds on the pension fund manager’s earlier investment of approximately $1 million in Formula’s first fund—the first time Armenian pension assets had been invested in a venture capital fund. The new amount marks a considerable step up.
Its significance extends beyond Formula VC. One persistent weakness of Armenia’s startup ecosystem has been its limited pool of domestic institutional capital. Armenian founders often need to look abroad as soon as they require meaningful funding. International investors will remain essential, particularly for companies targeting global markets. But a healthier ecosystem also needs local investors able to make patient, informed bets and remain involved as companies grow.
Pension funds entering venture capital must, of course, be managed with particular care. These are citizens’ long-term savings, and startup investment carries substantial risk. The move is noteworthy precisely because of that responsibility: it suggests venture capital is increasingly being assessed as a legitimate asset class by a local institutional investor, rather than remaining the preserve of wealthy individuals, diaspora networks, and foreign funds.
Formula VC’s second fund is targeting $30 million and plans to invest in roughly 35 to 40 Armenian-founded startups worldwide. A $6 million commitment would give locally managed, long-term capital a meaningful place in that effort. The real measure of the decision will be its performance over time, but it is an important development for a startup ecosystem that has long discussed the need for more capital at home.
Considering these developments, it’s clear that Armenia’s tech sector is entering a new phase: AI infrastructure is moving from plans to reality, Armenian-founded companies are attracting larger international investments, and local capital is beginning to find its way into venture funding. However, the challenge now is to not only sustain this momentum but also ensure it translates to more companies, more talent and more opportunities for people who want to build their future in Armenia.
