Michele Crestani

Michele Crestani is a freelance journalist and photojournalist reporting on science and education, social issues, and underground culture.

Born nearby Milan, he first trained as a biomedical engineer and later earned a Ph.D. in cancer research from the University of Milan’s SEMM School, with a focus on brain cancer. Michele has research stints at ETH Zurich and the National University of Singapore.

He studied journalism at the London School of Journalism and has been training in photoreportage under the mentorship of Valerio Bispuri. His work blends scientific literacy with visual and narrative storytelling, often centering on underrepresented communities, spatial inequality, and overlooked forms of resistance. He has developed longform projects on housing precarity in squatted communities in Zurich, as well as reportages in Buenos Aires and Santiago de Cuba.
