Vartan Matiossian

Vartan Matiossian is an Armenian Studies scholar who specializes in history and literature. Born in Montevideo (Uruguay), he moved to Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 1973, graduating from the Khrimian High School and the University of Buenos Aires. He has lived in New Jersey since 2000. He obtained his Ph.D. in History from the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia in 2006.

He has taught Armenian history and language in Buenos Aires and New Jersey on elementary, high school, and college levels. Currently, he is the Executive Director of the Eastern Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America in New York.

He has published extensively in Armenian, Spanish, and English, including many scholarly articles, reviews, translations, commentaries, and other pieces, as well as the following books: Կոստան Զարեանի շուրջ (About Gostan Zarian), Antelias, 1998; Անվերջ վերադարձ. Արմէն Օհանեանի կեանքը եւ գործը» (The Dancer of Shamakha: Life and Works of Armen Ohanian), Yerevan, 2007 (coauthored with Artsvi Bakhchinyan); Գրական-բանասիրական ուսումնասիրութիւններ (Literary and Philological Studies), Antelias, 2009; Pasado sin retorno, futuro que espera: los armenios en la Argentina ayer y hoy (Past without Return, Future in the Waiting: The Armenians in Argentina Yesterday and Today), Montevideo, 2001; Armenian Language Matters (New York, 2019); The Politics of Naming the Armenian Genocide: Language, History, and “Medz Yeghern” (London, 2021, forthcoming). He has edited twenty volumes in Armenian, English, and Spanish, and translated twenty books into Spanish, English, and Armenian.

Վարդան Մատթէոսեան ծնած է Մոնթէվիտէօ ու 1973ին տեղափոխուած՝ Պուէնոս Այրէս։ 2000ին հաստատուած է Նիւ Ճըրզի։ Շրջանաւարտ է Խրիմեան Կրթական Հիմնարկութենէն (1981) եւ Պուէնոս Այրէսի պետական համալսարանի տնտեսագիտութեան ճիւղէն (1991)։ 2006ին ստացած է պատմական գիտութիւններու թեկնածուի աստիճան՝ Հայաստանի Գիտութիւններու Ակադեմիայի Պատմութեան Հիմնարկէն։

Պուէնոս Այրէսի եւ Նիւ Ճըրզիի մէջ դասաւանդած է հայոց պատմութիւն եւ հայերէն՝ միջնակարգ, երկրորդական եւ համալսարանական մակարդակի վրայ։

Ներկայիս Միացեալ Նահանգներու Արեւելեան թեմի Ազգային Առաջնորդարանի դիւանապետն է։

1980էն աշխատակցած է հայ եւ օտար մամուլին, ստորագրելով հայերէն, սպաներէն եւ անգլերէն մեծաթիւ ուսումնասիրութիւններ, գրախօսականներ, հրապարակագրական յօդուածներ, թարգմանութիւններ եւ այլն։ Հրատարակած է հայերէն հինգ հատոր՝ «Կոստան Զարեանի շուրջ» (Անթիլիաս, 1998), «Անվերջ վերադարձ. Հայաստանի ճանապարհները (1988-2004)» (Երեւան, 2005), «Հարաւային կողմն աշխարհի. Հայերը Լատին Ամերիկայի մէջ սկիզբէն մինչեւ 1950» (Անթիլիաս, 2005), «Շամախեցի պարուհին. Արմէն Օհանեանի կեանքը եւ գործը» (Երեւան, 2007՝ Արծուի Բախչինեանի հետ), «Գրական-բանասիրական ուսումնասիրութիւններ» (Անթիլիաս, 2009)։ Լոյս ընծայած է նաեւ սպաներէն հատոր մը՝ «Անվերադարձ անցեալ, սպասող ապագայ. հայերը Արժանթինի մէջ՝ երէկ եւ այսօր» (Մոնթէվիտէօ, 2011), եւ անգլերէն երկու հատորներ՝ «Հայերէն լեզուի հարցեր» (Նիւ Եորք, 2019) եւ «Հայոց ցեղասպանութիւնը անուանելու քաղաքականութիւնը. լեզու, պատմութիւն եւ “Մեծ Եղեռն”» (Լոնտոն, 2021, մամուլի տակ)։ Խմբագրած է հայերէն, սպաներէն եւ անգլերէն 20 հատոր, եւ սպաներէնի ու անգլերէնի թարգմանած՝ 20 հատոր:
