While conspiracy theories and nationalist pseudohistories are a common phenomenon in the postsocialist space, something peculiar has happened in Azerbaijan; the eccentric ultranationalists, whose ideas are popular among the regime-aligned elite and are explicitly sponsored by the state, have proven triumphant.

As the forcibly displaced Armenians of Artsakh struggle to comprehend the magnitude of their loss, memories of the homes and lives they were forced to leave behind suffocate them. Theirs is a story of being ripped from their roots, of pain and dispossession.

The growing rapport between Azerbaijan’s dictatorship and NATO has received scant attention. Baku’s deepening partnership with NATO enhances its strategic position in relation to Russia, weakening Armenia, especially if Yerevan fails to recognize the limited support it can truly expect from the West.

In the constantly evolving landscape of international diplomacy, resolutions and rulings often carry the weight of hope, accountability and change. However, the international community’s weak response to Azerbaijan’s devastating hostilities has left many Armenians disillusioned.

In the absence of political will to exert pressure on Baku to accept necessary preconditions for the security and fundamental rights of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians, any calls for their return will only serve to legitimize and whitewash the ethnic cleansing that Azerbaijan carried out.

Adrine Naslyan, the General Manager of QaylTech, joins us to discuss how her company enables remote rehabilitation using virtual reality. QaylTech’s devices, such as MetaGait, allow people with disabilities to imitate gait (a person’s manner of walking) while being immersed in a virtual environment using VR headsets. Adrine shared how QaylTech’s idea emerged after the April 2016 war, and how their products have helped wounded soldiers, and other people with disabilities in continuing their rehabilitation process.

The Pashinyan Government's reforms of the police and other institutions promised to bring long-awaited changes to Armenia. While some progress was registered, there have been setbacks and backsliding, particularly after the defeat in the 2020 Artsakh War. Police reform has been no exception.
